Ji Liu announces Schubert Project at Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre 2022

A three-concert series dedicated to Schubert and composers influenced by him

Blog from Ji Liu:

I am very excited to announce my new Schubert Project with Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre from June 10th to 12th, 2022. Over these three days, I will share my research on Schubert and his music over these years. The programme will span from some of his earliest work such as Erlkönig Op.1 and Gretchen am Spinnrade Op.2, to his last works composed in the 18 months between the death of Beethoven and the death of Schubert, such as his great last three piano sonatas D.958, D.959 and D.960. as well as selections from Schwanengesang and Winterreise

Also, I will be performing some four-hand works by Schubert, György Ligeti and Morton Feldman, dedicated to Schubert’s beloved form for which he wrote more than most of his contemporary composers did. Also, Viennese salon music plays an important role to Schubert’s musical life, so I shall also perform his much loved 8 Impromptus Op. 90 and Op.142 in this series.

This 6-hour programme will be split into three days, and hopefully, will provide a rather holistic and spiritual journey - and I look forward to sharing these masterpieces with you in Shanghai and virtually everywhere in the world through online streaming platforms.

Also, I will be touring with programmes from the "Schubert Projects" throughout this summer - so please do stay in touch and follow me and my exciting musical journey on my social platforms where more concert dates will be announced shortly!

Kind regards, from Ji
